start of something new

I've decided to try a new skincare product called Acnicyl. I have pretty good skin just a few things here and there and then of course once a month I tend to breakout a bit more. Lately though I've noticed that my skin seems to be getting worse. It's still pretty mild and I know that my skin tends to get really bad during the winter half of the year since it's so dry. Anyways I've been using the Sebamed products for a really long time and I just wanted to try this to see if it would help. I bought it at the pharmacy, the cleanser costs about 15€ and the cream was probably something around 7€ (can't really remember). I haven't used them yet I just did a quick allergy test yesterday to make sure that there wasn't anything in the product that my skin could be sensitive to. I'll let you know what I think in a few weeks.

relaxing

Hi, My dad came home a few days ago from New York. I'm so happy because I finally got the Teen Vogue handbook, you can't buy it here in Finland and it's not available yet on amazon.uk. He also got me some things from Abercrombie & Fitch and then just some magazines like teen vogue and Harper's Bazaar. We do have these magazines in Finland as well but for example one teen vogue costs about 6.80€ (about $9) while in the US you only pay $2.50. I'll post a few updates this week but for now I need to get back to studying.

hours on end

(above: this years bikini? from H&M)
Hello gals,
It's hard to understand that we only have 50 days of school left, I mean that's going to go by in no time. I can't wait for summer, while my friends back in Westport are enjoying the warm spring weather in stuck over here in Finland surrounded by snow. Anyways I got some new DVDs on saturday and pretty much just watched them all day. New Moon, 2012 and a box of Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream, what more do you need? :) I saw New Moon once back in like November/December when it came out so I just watched that again. I never saw 2012 in theaters even though I really wanted to and I have to say that was such a good movie. This was the first time I've been crying while watching a movie in such a long time.
I'm going to try to do a bit more blogging this week cause I have tests all of next week and I really need to focus on them, so I probably won't be posting anything next week.
Also I've realized that I haven't really posted any photos, which I'm going to start doing as soon as it starts to get warmer so I can be outside.

tomorrow I want to wear

(above: bag Marc Jacobs, blazer Smythe, necklace Matthew Williamson, top American Eagle, shoes Camilla Skovgaard, pants Vionnet)
Hi, sorry for not updating. I've been having some problems with my internet connection, I actually wrote a post yesterday but apparently it didn't upload. So I went to do some shopping today after school. I got a mac fluidline in blitz & glitz and then just a few things from H&M since they had 10€ off all jackets and blazers. Also in my last post I told you that my bag broke so I took it to a different shoe/bag repair since at the first one they weren't able to fix it. Anyways I finally got it fixed and I'll be getting it back today. I still have some homework to do but after that it's "the Rachel Zoe project" from 9 to 10.

ARGH! Why does nothing seem to go right?? I took my bag to get it fixed and at the shoe/bag repair they said that they couldn't! How is that possible? You are supposed to fix things like that not tell me that you can't. I went to Zara as well and they told me that I could exchange the bag for a gift card and get a different bag, but I don't want a different bag I want my old one fixed! I prefer to spend a bit more money on bags so I get one that's good and durable. The bag was about 60€ which isn't a huge amount of money so I was kind of expecting that it would break at some point, but not after a few months. Anyways I'm gonna take it to a different place some time next week and see if the could just sew it together somehow and then I they could replace the gold button like thing with something similar.

when the sun rises

Hi, So it's finally saturday :D I went to the movies yesterday with two of my friends and we saw The Lovely Bones. It's about a girl who is raped and murdered when she was 14 and then she is caught in the "in between" which is supposed to be between earth and heaven and from there she can watch over her loved ones. I absolutely hate any type of scary movies, okay well this one wasn't that scary it was more of a thriller and kind of gross (some parts at least). The man who was the rapist/murderer was played by Stanley Tucci and it was a bit bizarre seeing him like that when I just kept thinking about him as Nigel the art director from The Devil Wears Prada. Overall I think that the movie was pretty good.
Also all of you Twilight fans out there know that the Eclipse trailer aired yesterday. I have read all of the books and I like them and the movies are okay as well (I'm not one of those obsessed fans though). Eclipse was my favorite book out of the 4 and honestly the trailer did not get me excited. It kind of bland in my opinion. Why did they leave out all of the action?? Also the new Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard) looks like a child. I forced my brother to watch the trailer and the first thing he said was "that girl with the red hair reminds me of someone at my school" note that he is 10. So I really hope they make a new one.
Not much is gonna happen this weekend, mostly studying. I might go horseback riding and I also have to get my bag fixed cause this gold thing fell of that keeps the handle attached to the bag.
I'll talk to you later.

Monday, March 8, 2010

Hello gals, It's been a pretty normal day today (I say that a lot, I know). I was supposed to have school from 8.10 to 2.30 but came home a bit earlier cause I got a migraine. I don't know why but my migraines always get better really fast. I mean I see black dots, my head REALLY hurts, I feel really sick to my stomach and my eyes hurt, but it never lasts for more than 6 hours or so and I have friends who can have it for 2 days. Today after school I also chose what subjects I want to study next year. Here in Finland when you go to Upper Secondary School you have 5 so called periods that each last for about 2 months. When a new period starts you have a new set of courses. What's great is that you pretty much have control over your schedule. Like if you don't want to get up early in the morning just avoid choosing a course that goes between 8 and 10. I'm actually super excited about next year, I have the basic things like chemistry, math, Finnish, history etc but then I have all these fun things like photography, stress management, biology 4 (how the human body works), 3 courses of Spanish and then a whole bunch of extra English courses. I need t go now but I'll talk to you later. (took the random picture above today :D I don't like updates with just text)

fashion is a religion. this is the bible

Review: "The September Issue" a movie by R.J. Cutler
The Devil Wears Prada has been one of my favorite movies for a really long time so I was super excited when I heard about this one. Since it's a documentary it didn't show in theaters here in Finland, so I had to wait until it was available on DVD. I got it earlier because I ordered it from amazon but her in Finland it will be available in stores by March 10th.
In this movie we take a look at Anna Wintour's life, the people she works with and the making of the september issue. It was really nice to see what actually happens during the making of an issue and how much hard work is being put in. In the beginning Anna is shown as the ice woman she is known for but towards the end you can really see someone who is a loving mother and very passionate about their job.
Other people featured were Grace Coddington who is the creative director, editor-at-large André Leon Talley, designers like Thakoon etc etc. I don't want to give too much away but the last photo shoot was really cool (like all the other ones as well)
In conclusion this movie is amazing and I recommend it to everyone who is interested in fashion. I've seen it 4 times in the past 5 days and it still doesn't get boring.

REVIEW: "that extra half an inch" by Victoria Beckham
I haven't read the entire book but so far it seems okay. I know not to judge a book by its cover but I know that I tend to pick up books with and appealing cover and intriguing pictures. The book starts of by talking about her childhood and the later moves and to pretty much every pieces of clothing. What I really like is that she has included things that several other style guides don't. There is a chapter about travel and carry on essentials, great gifts to buy, pregnancy and post pregnancy and even about beauty and hair which in many cases would be separated into a different book. Another little great detail is that there is a notes section at the end of each chapter where you can write down anything you want.
What I don't like about the book is that at the end of EVERY chapter there is this HUGE "where to buy" section. I mean it's great and all but thats pretty much what half of the book consists of. At one point she said something like you don't need money to look good... then why do you only name designers in the "where to buy" section? Seriously like 18 out of 20 named are designer brands like Prada, Valentino, Gucci, YSL etc etc. Also many of the "tips" are more like common sense, on page 30 there was this style no no that said "The absolute worst thing anyone can do with their jeans is to pull their G-string over the waistband." I think everyone knows that.
In conclusion I would say that the book is okay. There isn't much to read due to all of the pointless tips and "where to buy" sections. If you plan to take this book with you on lets say a 5 hour flight I would recommend to take another book with you as well otherwise you'll find your self reading the sky mall catalogue after an hour.
I don't regret buying this book but it's one of those just for fun things to read.

if i had a title, this is where i would put it

Hi,
I've been really busy these past few days and that's why I haven't been posting any updates. Just a quick recap of what's happened; I got my amazon package on tuesday and I'll do a review on the things tomorrow, I promise. I also went shopping today and got a A5 size sketching book by Winsor & Newton, XZ calming conditioner for my hair and a top from H&M. I really need to go now since I still have math homework to do and I only got 6 hours of sleep last night so I'm exhausted.

just another day

So school started today, I had history from 8.10 to 9.45 (not one of my favorite subjects but it's actually been quite fun since we are only like 10 or 11 people in the entire group), then biology from 10 to 11.40 and after lunch from 1 to 2.30 I had English. Nothing really happening this week, I should get my stuff from amazon by Friday which I'm super excited about and I might try to make it downtown to Helsinki to buy this top from H&M that I really like. The nice thing is that it only takes a few minutes with the metro from my school to downtown Helsinki so I can just go after school and then take the bus home (yes I'm 16 but in Finland you don't get your drivers license until you're 18)
